Ram's Peak
Last Bastion of the Ancients
It is said that the great horned Ram was carved by the hands of the ancients hundreds of years before the Great Fettering of Edenfeld. How the rock had been cut and worked against the salt-spray at the edge of the known world was lost long ago— a cold memory that echoed through it’s cavernous stair.
Once all the land east of what we now call Aionios had all belonged to the Silverwood. Portions of the sacred wood are guarded still by the Ones who Keep the Stars beyond the Rosegate. War, not even the great war, could drive mankind into the domain of the divine.
Yet a space was allotted for man to dwell, a respite from the capital of the War-Mongering tyrant. It’s settlers called it Ram’s Peak.
Nestled between the coast and the sprawling valleys that stretch out upon the hills where shepards tend their flocks, fishermen traverse the stone stair to the coast for their catch as children play in the wood that leads to Whitt’s Edge— the city of crossing.
Beyond Whitt’s Edge lay east the Silverwood, where beastkin and the ancients still dwell, and west toward Aionios and the great cities of men.
As I was developing Ram’s Peak as Luka’s hometown, I was reminded of the testing of Abraham. Called to sacrifice the son God had promised him, Abraham trusted that God was faithful and would not go back on his word. When Issac asked where the lamb was, Abraham said only, “God will provide for Himself the lamb for the burnt offering, my son.”
Abraham trusted God even when the objective seemed to go against God’s promise. He trusted God beyond his own understanding. Abraham did not withhold his only son, and wove into the tapestry of time a picture of God’s own plan of redemption for us. In Abraham’s seed all the nations would be blessed in the coming Messiah.
God provided the Ram in the thicket for Abraham. The Father sent his son Jesus to redeem us. What a beautiful thing it is to trust in the promise of God.
If you do not know Jesus, but would like to learn more of Him, please feel free to reach out, I would love to have a conversation with you!
Grace & Peace,
Kristie
